A unique treasure in colour.
The richly painted environment of the “Kaiserpfalz” is a significant treasure from an art historical point of view. These precious mural paintings mirror the history of the prince-bishop fortress and are the fundament for the transregional importance of the building as well as its classification as a monument of national importance.
The gothic paintings are from the late 14th century and chiefly owe their existence to the Bamberg prince-bishop Lambert von Brunn und his successor prince-bishop Albert von Wertheim. As liberal-minded rulers they engaged leading Bohemian artists to decorate their residence with mural paintings.
