Wall paintings
From an art-historical point of view, The richly painted decoration of the “Kaiserpfalz” is an important treasure. These precious wall paintings reflect the history of the prince-bishop´s castle and are the reason for the building´s supraregional significance and its classification as a monument of national importance.

The gothic paintings date from the late 14th century and owe their existence primarily to the Bamberg´s Prince-Bishop Lambert von Brunn und his successor Prince-Bishop Albert von Wertheim. As cosmopolitan rulers, they engaged leading artists under Bohemian influence to decorate their residence with wall paintings.
