Traditional Costume Museum

Women in traditional costumes – a colourful sight, which characterises some areas of Bavaria. And how about in Franconia? Are these colourful clothes ready for a museum or even extinct? Almost: But even today you may see women in traditional costumes in Franconian Switzerland and the surround areas, although their number is becoming smaller and smaller. In short: The traditional costume has become a precious rarity.

We preserve the knowledge surrounding the last traditional costumes and present individual pieces of clothing. Different presentations are dedicated to the phenomenon Traditional Costume in a specific museum.

Beginning with the development history, the diversity of fabrics and accessories up to many original exhibits, photos and the history of the Franconian vernacular – enjoy the unique insight into a world filled with patterns, fabrics, colours and personal stories.
